Is the Apprentice Movie Fired? | What Next | Daily News and Analysis
The Apprentice, starring Captain America’s Sebastian Stan and Succession’s Jeremy Strong, was financed in part by the widely-loathed former-Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder. But after the movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, Trump’s attorneys sent cease-and-desist letters to the filmmakers-and Snyder seems to be using veto power on an American sale of the rights. Will this controversial cut of the film ever play on the big screen in the States?
Guest: Jake Lahut, political reporter at the Daily Beast, covering Republican campaigns.

    At oral argument, it was clear to me that several justices are possibly gunning for Domestic Violence laws in general. They’re not ballsy enough to say “reword the VAWA to remove the sexist Language ” because it’s too “woke” and also is the only framework we have regarding the intimacy and special nature of violence or coercion in one’s home, where women do not have a “home is my castle” rules & traditions articulation. The “men’s rights advocates” who seek to subjugate their family members will continue to fight every step towards true equity within the law. 44:11 - I think the majority should have couched their decision more along the lines of “lawful citizens do have a right to live together” to avoid their xenophobia & not open the floodgates on people in custody they were so worried about during argument. If Rivken - Alito conflict were only reported as much as Flaggate, Whitehouse & Durbin have more ammo & Justice Roberts would even have some cover for working WITH them to codify & enforce ethical standards & penalties.

    Compulsory voting is needed in order to strengthen our democracy. Every American Citizen of voting age WOULD BE REQUIRED to submit a ballot in every general election. Not necessarily vote for anyone or anything in particular. Mandatory voting would eliminate voter fraud and it would help distinguish citizens from non-citizens. For a more perfect union vote Blue. The power in the Constitition is vested in We The People not the President not the Congress and not the Supreme Court. We The People weild that power by voting. If our democracy is threatened the President should invoke Martial Law which suspends the Congress and the Supreme Court. According to our military a convicted felon is prohibited from serving in our military.

    Okay, I'm just a white 3rd wave feminist, which apparently makes me a humongous problem and at least as bad the patriarchy, but I don't think it was ever a rule that everybody had to agree with feminism. I think most feminists believe (believed?) that feminism was good for everyone, but was it really the plan that everybody was going to have to agree that this was the way to run every aspect of society? I thought that people were more realistic than that. Also, I do believe that feminism is about choice. So Trad wives are welcome at the table if they want to take their place. The thing is, people have always tried to characterize feminism as a movement that hates men and want all the power for themselves. Because I'm a crappy white 3rd wave feminist I believe this is a really vicious lie, but I'm not going to speak for feminists who have come after me because I haven't gotten all of the stuff since college figured out yet. But to say that feminism is bad because we haven't accomplished everything we set out to is about the same as saying that the movement to end white supremacy is bad because they haven't accomplished everything they set out to do (My use of we and they doesn't really reflect how I identify with these movements, but I'm trying to be brief.) The thing is, people have always taken shortcuts and then argued later over whether they are actually shortcuts. If you have the freedom to be a Tradwife and that's what you want, then go for it. If they decide later that they want to do something different, they should also have that choice. My concern for my sisters who think that feminism has nothing to offer is that they actually will not have the freedom to make a different decision about their lives a few years down the road. I don't think that this is a failure of feminism. I think that women have a human desire to be valued and that all people tend to do more of the things that make them feel valued. Lucky for me, I was never that hot and I'm not good at cooking.

    While it isn't possible to say Originalism is dead when the majority of SCOTUS are dedicated to the proposition, I think it's clear that Originalism is getting very wobbly and with a questionable sense of direction. What was once a noble sounding approach has mostly been exposed as a way for Conservatives to prevent criticism of their opinions as long as they can draw the merest parallel to something that happened at any point in the distant past. And if there isn't one? They just make up some other approach and label it Textualism, Strict Constructionism, or whatever suits their mood.

    There is "submit to your husband" was written by Paul who did not marry or have a wife. Husbands were to love their wives as Christ loved the church which is mostly not mentioned in the quote. There is an implied equity in loving someone or something. The fallacy in all of this was that there was no church when Jesus was alive and the church was a creation of Paul.

      I mean, Jesus told the apostles that he would build his church on Peter’s declaration of faith, so he at least expected there to be a church later. But your previous point is extremely important: the husband’s leadership was directly tied to his imitating Jesus through the same kind of selfless love that Christ had for the church (“and gave himself up for her”), i.e., being the leader in sacrifice, in putting others first, in serving, and in forgiving. I’ve not very often seen it played out that way.

    I grew up during Feminism. Part of Feminism was 'we don't want women to be sexually exploited' ... along with more freedoms and equalities. It was quite anti-male with a mis-belief that 'If women ruled the world, there would be no wars' (ha!). What happened as Feminism took hold, more women went into the sex trade! Now there are women who only want to stay at home. I worked with hundreds of families in the 1970s who were extremely religious and others who were hippies/alternative. I knew when these two got together we'd be in a whole lot of trouble. Both groups were anti-government, anti-science, and anti-vaxx. My thoughts was that when Feminists were anti-men (all men are potential rapists ...no), there was very little encouragement for American families to do what most cultures do worldwide ... work together and take responsibility together. Yes, there are some 'religious' cultures where women are not seen or heard publicly but the vast majority of cultures men and women work alongside each other and share in taking care of the children.

  • @penguinista
    @penguinista 13 часов назад

    Feminism's failure is hypocrisy. We understand men had traditional sources of power that women didn't, men are obligated to share the power, and it is certainly unacceptable for men to take advantage of women with that power. We know women's experience has to be respected and that it is unacceptable to raise girls in ways that make them susceptible to men's traditional power as adults. But we don't recognize the mirror image of any of those statements. We ignore women's abusive use of their traditional power and women's monopolistic behavior. We ignore discrimination against men like the draft and paternity rights. We refrain from protecting men or criticizing women. The women's movement would have gotten nowhere without men. Women didn't vote to let women get the vote or decide to allow women into law schools and medical schools. Women didn't catch, convict, and incarcerate Charles Manson. Countless men have had the integrity and courage to stand up against their own tribe (other men) and struggle for women's rights, but all men get in thanks is castigated and badmouthed. There are vanishingly few women with the integrity and courage to stand up to their tribe and struggle for men's rights. And that is the reason for feminism's failure.

    • @snowmonster42
      @snowmonster42 10 часов назад

      @@Arisaem I think that this question is very Zen. If you are in a trap, but you don't want to get away, is it really a trap? I don't know the answer, but I think that what you are really asking is 'If someone decides to be a traditional wife, can she change her mind about her role or about the relationship later on?' Because if she can't, she's definitely in a trap. But love makes us goofy (which is why we like it). I think that marriage is almost inherently optimistic so from that perspective I can't blame trad wives at all. Of course they aren't thinking that the person they love is going toto turn out to be abusive or whatever. If they did, they wouldn't have gotten married. Nobody does.
